This roaster works very well. Ti roasts the beans very evenly. Chaf separation is very good. Only a small amount of beans end up in the chaf collector. The handle is very convenient for emptying the roaster.
Drawbacks, I wish it had another roast setting before dark, just time your roast and notice smoking and aroma to get the roast you want.
Not the easiest to see what level of roast your beans are at.
Good entry level machine to see if coffee roasting is for you without spending an arm and a leg on equipment
This is an update to my review. The internal control that turns the roaster from roast has quit working after 10 months of use. You must constantly monitor this roaster when using. You never know when this will happen to your roaster.
Idk if this would be a fire hazard or not. Idk if other roasters switch to cool automatically or not.
There is no customer support, I went to their website and sent an email, it came back as a non-existent email address.
When using this roaster it doesn’t heat constantly. It switches the heater on and off continuously so you will have a very difficult time knowing where your roast is in the various crack stages.

I was so excited to try this roaster- with all the 4 star reviews I thought I couldn’t go wrong. Boy was I mistaken! My very first roast I selected dark roast and put in only 2 scoops with the included sccoop per the instructions. I didn’t hear the first crack like I was expecting at about 4-5 minutes. At about 7 minutes all the sudden I hear multiple cracks and then massive smoke started! The beans went from green to burnt and my house was filled with acrid smoke. Guess I’ll have to give up the home roasting venture because I’m not spending hundreds of dollars for a product I can purchase from roasters without wasting my time and money

I am a professional roaster, or was. This little guy, while not perfect, is a good choice if you want to make some decent coffee at home, AND reduce your overall cost per bag……The dark button is very dark…..I mean especially these days it produces an oily bean right out of the finish…then it gets more oily….very dark. The automatic feature kind of makes it a nands off kind of thing, though I use the dark button to get it past the medium button’s time,…and end it when I like what I see……its is made pretty well and should last a while, although I have no idea what quality the heater element is inside…..I have had mine for a few months now, use it 3 times a week and pretty happy until I get access to a traditiinal roaster again..my only REAL complaint is the way the cover to the chaffe tray secures itself. It is frustratingly hard to get it back on when hot…..and it slips off way too easily. Needs a more positive CLICK type connector..enjoy

It’s essentially a popcorn popper with a timer.
The medium (more like medium-dark) is uniform as well as the dark roast. However, I would have preferred to have an option to set roasting time manually as it should not come at an additional cost technologically speaking.
One thing to note is there is plastic on this device and the first ten roasts or so, there will be a horrible plastic smell. I nearly returned it due to this, but it seems it has subsided; at least enough to where I don’t notice it anymore.
The top chaff collector is very flimsy and could have been designed much better as the tabs almost never line up right when you reassemble it.
Apart from these issues, it actually roasts fairly decent and uniform coffee. I suppose to get lighter roasts, one could just unplug the machine around the desired roast level, turn it back on and select the cool down mode.

I just started roasting my own coffee. My first try at pan roasting was, to my surprise, very successful, leaving coffee with an excellent flavor. But too smoky for my range hood to cope with. To avoid irritating my wife, I decided to get this, which I can run in the garage.
The chaff collector is easy to clean and works very well, and operation is, on the whole, straightforward. I can see that it’s going to require some experimentation to get optimal results though. There are only two settings: medium and dark, and there’s a cooling mode for when roasting is finished. Another reviewer said medium was too dark. My experience was that it’s not dark enough. (The unit went into cooling mode not long after the first crack finished.) I conjecture that this might depend on the variety of coffee and perhaps the amount of coffee beans used. I used slightly more than the recommended 70g. Next time I’m going to use less coffee and see if it’s darker. I also need to try the dark setting. According to the manual it’s possible to interrupt the roasting and send the unit into cooling mode right away, so this might be the way to go once I figure out timing.
Anyway, the coffee was very good, and I’m very optimistic that I’ll soon find the settings that give my preferred roasting level.

The reviews were hit/miss on this but this is basically the only unit in it’s class before you get to the pro level stuff and I’m not ready for that. It does a good job and is indeed automatic. The chaff separation is excellent. I find ZERO chaff in the completed beans. Chaff sucks because it BURNS- so separation is key.
I believe the max it says to roast at once is 70G- I have pushed that to 100G and have had zero problems. I would NOT push it beyond that. If the beans don’t move when the unit is running, you are going to ruin them.
Medium roast based on my experience is more like a cinnamon roast (an actual descriptor in coffee). If you’re looking for City or City + I’d run it on medium until it’s done and maybe another 5/10 mins for City/City +. This really depends on if you’re actually supplying 1200W to the unit so if you’re a nerd you should double check that before using my recommendations. I haven’t tested with dark because I don’t ever want my beans that roasted and the idea of hitting a dark button scares me.
Because I can trust the unit after getting used to it, it’s very easy to make many batches with little oversight. Every 20 minutes or so when the cycle is over, empty the beans and chaff, add some more beans, and press the button again. Even 100G isn’t much- (~5 shots espresso?). I make a pound at a time throughout the day. Very easy and consistent.

Can only roast a small amount. No real choice in donenrss- either dark or medium. I do like that it’s quiet and minimally Smokey.

It is a good option for us because it does a great job roasting the coffee beans – and is super easy to use. As long as we follow the instructions and only roast 70 grams of beans or less, then it does a fantastic job. The beans are so evenly roasted that it is impressive… I was very surprised by how well it roasts. It obviously does not give you fine controls like a more expensive roaster provides. But I don’t need that. I just want to push the 1 button and 20 minutes later have my roasted beans.

I got this on a Black Friday sale for $80. Totally worth it! It only has three settings: Medium, Dark and cool-down. The dark roast setting finishes like a French or Italian roast. The medium roast finishes on the dark side of medium. Since I like medium-dark roast I use the medium setting and it’s a set and forget process. The cool-down cycle starts automatically when the heating cycle ends. The cool-down button is there if you want to do a custom roast. For instance, if you want a light roast, you can set it for medium roast and listen for the “first crack”, then hit the cool-down button when the desired darkness is achieved.
Ian really impressed with how evenly roasted the beans are. And the coffee is fantastic.
