The dentek mouth guard is easy to mold and fits okay at first. After a few weeks of use the soft inner plastic deteriorates and the fit begins to feel uncomfortable. The worry with the plastic deteriorating is that you could be swallowing the bits when you’re asleep.
I’ve gone through two of these in less than 6-8 months and will be buying another brand.

I have severe bruxism and never sleep without a mouth guard for fear of cracking a tooth. For years, I avoided the dentist and instead used OTC mouth guards like this one from Dentek. In retrospect this was a terrible idea, it ruined my bite and led to other dental problems (outlined below).
I’ve tried many different brands of OTC mouth guard and depending on the quality, I could sometimes chew through one in a matter of days. This one by Dentek was the most durable and comes with a 6-month product protection guarantee. It never lasted quite that long, more like 3 months, before cracking near my back molars. This likely had less to do with the actual quality of the guard and more to do with my bite, which ironically (or maybe not) was ruined by wearing non-dental grade mouth guards for too long.
AFAIK the size of this mouth guard is “one size fits all”. For me, the length was too short, stopping just before my last set of molars. This caused my jaw placement to shift over time into more of an open bite where only my back molars touch. If my bite were even, I could see this product lasting the full 6 months or more.
The fitting process is a bit tedious and fiddly. Read through the instructions once or twice before starting the process so you know what to expect or you risk having to start over.
Overall, this is a durable mouthguard though the sizing may not be ideal. If the overall fit isn’t near perfect, it could lead to serious dental problems in the future. I recommend this product over others in the same class, but advise against using an OTC mouthguard long term. Go to the dentist, don’t wait!

Been using these for years. These are comfortable and last (for me) almost a year. I have two other guards made by the dentist and they are too hard and still don’t fit right. These are so easy to make.

I dislocated my jaw a couple nights ago by accident and it was so painful I didn’t know what to do and I have pretty bad TMJ & I grind my teeth at night and clench. This guard has completely relaxed my face. I just woke up and immediately started writing this review and I’ve never written a review I don’t think. The mold was pretty easy to make just make sure you bite down and feel it go around your teeth. Really great product. It’s worth the $. It’s very thick so even when you bite down there’s still a thick layer of mold between both teeth and there’s no worry of grinding it away. Super comfy.

My dentist recommended that I get a mouth guard to prevent me grinding my teeth. The cost $867 and my insurance will cover about $300. Still, $567 is a heap of cash.
I had one built almost a decade ago by my dentist for about $300. It was hard plastic and after about 1.5 years it no longer fit.
This guard comes with very clear instructions with two options; boiling in water or using a microwave. (I don’t suggest the latter as microwaves differ in wattage).
The first attempt was a complete failure (on my part). I did not bite down hard enough with my back teeth. Next attempt was that I re-boiled the guard and bit too hard causing the guard to form up above my gums. Grrrr…
The company does not recommend a third try, but I kept it in the hot water longer and tried to reform the guard to original position. It worked fairly well, but not perfect. So, with a bit of scissor work and help from the tip of a hot glue gun, I was able to make it work as a temporary guard.
I called up the company’s support line and was assisted by a very pleasant woman in customer service who will send me a replacement. I’m very confident that I’ll get this right on the next try.
This is very much like a sports mouth guard, but with a shallower and thinner surface area which is perfect for nighttime use.
If you buy this, I suggest the following added instruction on molding the guard; “Bite down equally and firmly on the guard. Do not apply too much pressure forward or backward as it sets up. You will feel the material surround your teeth; refrain from biting harder when the material begins to reach the gum line.”
I really like the product and customer service provided. A++ is my rating.

It helps with protecting your teeth at night if you are a teeth grinder. It is pretty straight forward to use, but make sure you read the directions several times before trying to mold them to your teeth. I’ve gotten mine to last for more than a year. However, if you are a heavy teeth grinder you will crush them and they won’t last as long. It works well to keep you from grinding down your teeth.

When I broke a tooth due to grinding, I realized I had a problem and this was one of the first guards I tried. I didn’t like how it ended up smelling, so I switched guard types/brands. I used so many various guards on the market since then looking for the holy guard and found that all of them smelled great, but always had comfort issues! Some were too small and made me clench harder. Some were too big. And still others hurt my teeth by putting pressure on them like braces.
After 2 years, I’ve returned to Dentex Professional Fit and boy, did I miss it! It’s so comfortable that I can work with it in my mouth.
Now, for full discretion, I do NOT fit this guard as the instructions state. I hated the way it felt when I id that.
First, I follow the instructions and made my first impression of my top teeth.
After it cooled, I pulled it out of the bite plastic thing and boiled water AGAIN.
I popped that bad boy in the water for a full minute, rinsed it with cold for a hot second and bit into it again, this time pushing it with my fingers around my teeth and pushing up with my tongue to get it as close as possible. Then, I suck gently to get it to suction to my teeth and hold that for 2 minutes. You want a light suction, just enough to get it to stick.
Then I hit it with cold water.
Now I can put it in my mouth and keep my mouth open and it doesn’t budge! It also does not put uncomfortable pressure on my teeth because it’s thin enough around the edges to fit like a glove and bend a bit. Pulling it out of the form also allows the material to stretch back across my back teeth better.
For me, this is perfect. I find that other guards will fall out and make me feel like I need to keep my teeth clenched to hold it in place. Being able to fit it to my top teeth in a way that keeps it there allows me to fully relax my jaw and know that if I grind, my teeth are safe.

I am a heavy teeth grinder. My dentist has created a custom fit one–but it fit over my incisors and was very, very, VERY uncomfortable. I started looking for alternatives.
This is one of the more common types of over-the-counter mouthguards–boil water, dunk guard until it softens up, bite over it, wait until it cools. Not terribly hard. And while it’s much more comfortable fitting it over the upper teeth, it will work with lower ones, too.
Here are the two downsides, though:
1. The guard sticks over the teeth as you remove it. I have some fillings on my teeth and I worry if it will remove it every time I imprint a new one. Likewise, it also sticks to the mold and is sometimes difficult to remove.
2. It says it lasts 6 months–but it will not last 6 months before cracking. It’s more like “it’ll last 6 months before the guard’s imprinted portion literally splits in two and decouples from the plastic plate that separates the teeth.” I’m not sure if that’s what they meant, but that’s about how it lasts with each one of these that I went through. And I’m sure I’ve eaten those tiny little plastic bits that broke apart as I slept.
I’d get other mouthguards, but most–even including Remi, which comes with one guard for upper and lower teeth and is honestly not a bad a deal if it works with your teeth (their customer service is, unfortunately, pretty lacking)–won’t take the abuse as gracefully as these; Remi would literally shatter after a few months. Other Dentek stuff aren’t form-fitting, and often not comfortable. And for off brand guards… well…
I’ll continue to use these. I don’t have a choice. It’s probably the best one for my specific use case.
But man, I wish there was a better choice.

I have TMJ and clench in my sleep. I got the DenTek nightguard to trial to see if it’s something I can tolerate sleeping with (my dentist wants to fit me for a professional guard). After reading the instructions it was pretty straight forward for getting it molded. I have used it several nights since getting it. Definitely feels foreign but not uncomfortable. The guard doesn’t extend to cover my last molars completely which I do notice when I end up biting down. The case is nice for storage by the bedside also.

I hardly write reviews on Amazon, but after giving into ordering these because of this pandemic which limits my access to stores, I now know that I will never, even in the most desperate of times, buy Dentek products again. Now, I am someone who has been wearing dental guards for the last 5+ years. Due to stress and other issues, I mash my teeth at night so hard it wakes up my partner, and even me sometimes, due to the sound of grinding. So I have gone through various pairs of dental guards, they tend to last me about 6 months each, but if they fit comfortably and cause no disturbances in my sleep, I don’t mind replacing them.
Issue 1: Fit
The first set of moldable dental guards I used were from Dentek, and I remember always hating how bulky they were because they did not allow me to close my mouth. On top of that, I would bite through them in less than 3 months. Thankfully, I have found other brands, usually pharmacy brands through Riteaid and Walgreens, that fit much better, are not bulky, last longer, and usually sell for two for the price of this one dentek!
This time around I had sincerely hoped the experience would be different. It was not! I am a woman, and perhaps this product works better for men, still highly doubtful. But first of all, even though the product is molded in the same way as every other dental guard, it is much harder to get the right fit on the first try! Other great products have an additional piece that allows the user to widen or narrow the plastic holder depending on your mouth shape. This dentek product does not, meaning you are mostly forced to fit your mouth shape into the shape of the plastic holder with hardly any adjustments being possible. This meant that on my first try, the mold came out lopsided and when I closed my mouth, not only was the dental guard loose, only one side touched part of my bottom teeth, the other side did not meaning I would definitely have jaw alignment issues. Again, I am someone who uses dental guards all of the time! This was not just a case of me not knowing what I’m doing.
Issue 2: Durability
Since I was forced to redo the molding due to the flawed design, and due to the bulkiness of the product, this meant that now I am left with a product that is already falling apart (Please see pictures). Additionally, even though the fit was better than on my first try, it still had the issue of alignment, but did fit tighter somehow so it was not easily falling off. The product however, still forced my mouth to remain open in an uncomfortable manner.
Issue 3: Impact on sleep – Issues with throat
I woke up 4 times last night coughing. Because this product forces my mouth to remain open, my throat got extremely dry throughout the night and I was actually worried I was getting sick with a dry cough. The last time it woke me up I decided to take the product off and lo and behold, no coughing for the rest of the night.
Issue 4: Price
As I have already mentioned, you can get other great products which typically sell with two mouth guards for the price of this one Dentek! It is much more worth it for you to buy a product, with similar reviews as this one, that will AT LEAST grant you access to two dental guards instead of one. It is just not worth it and now I have lost out on $20 for something that I did not even get to wear one full night! And yes, sometimes dental guards take sometime getting used to, but this was not the case here. If you order these because you were as desperate as I am, and are experiencing the issues I mention above, please know that it is not normal and you can definitely find another guard that will work better for you! Don’t give up and wear this horrible product. It can do a lot more harm than good.
