Green onions, or scallions, are long, skinny onions that are best cooked and used to accompany other vegetable based meals. They also act as a great garnish to brighten up a meal.

Green fresh onions are a staple in our diet

Writing this as much to hopefully remind myself to avoid this brand as to warn others. These looked great, no complaints for the person who added this bag to my order, I’d’ve chosen it myself without a second thought, but when I started trying to use these they were weird, soft, maybe frozen at some point? Or just really really old? They had more of the clear “sap” of the onion just… sitting in the hollow greens than I’ve ever seen, and it was so bizarre I did a google search to make sure they weren’t infested with some weird slime mold or something, like literally, I could scrape at least a teaspoon of thick, transparent gel out of every stalk. Google says it’s just something that can happen but I’ve never seen anything like this and it was extremely unpleasant! I was not raised to waste food or be precious about it though, so I tried to just clean the gel out and use the onions anyway but they didn’t have much flavor and it didn’t seem like I could really do enough to get rid of the slimy gel, no matter how thoroughly I tried to clean them or how thin I tried to slice them.

The produce is great but it needs compostable packaging. There is no need for toxic plastic on organic products!

I recently purchased a bunch of green onions from Amazon, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and freshness of these green onions. They have become an essential ingredient in my kitchen, adding a burst of flavor and vibrancy to my dishes.
First and foremost, the green onions arrived promptly and were well-packaged, ensuring their freshness. As soon as I opened the package, I was greeted by the delightful aroma of these vibrant green beauties. The stalks were firm, crisp, and perfectly green, indicating their freshness.
What I love most about these green onions is their versatility. Whether I’m using them as a garnish, adding them to stir-fries, soups, or salads, they never fail to enhance the overall taste and presentation of my dishes. The mild yet distinct onion flavor they bring is simply delightful.
Moreover, these green onions have a long shelf life, allowing me to use them over several meals without worrying about them wilting or losing their flavor. This is a huge plus, especially when I want to incorporate them into various recipes throughout the week.
Another aspect worth mentioning is the convenience of having green onions readily available at my fingertips. No more last-minute grocery store runs or settling for subpar quality. With Amazon’s reliable delivery service, I can now enjoy fresh green onions whenever I need them, saving me time and effort.
Lastly, the price point for these green onions is excellent. They offer great value for money, considering the quality and quantity provided. I appreciate that I can enjoy premium green onions without breaking the bank.
In conclusion, I highly recommend these green onions to all home cooks and food enthusiasts out there. Their freshness, flavor, versatility, and convenience make them an absolute must-have in every kitchen. I will definitely be purchasing them again and again. Thank you, Amazon, for delivering such a fantastic product!

When I buy scallions, it’s to get their green parts, not their white parts.
That’s because the white parts of scallions are so very much like many other kinds of onions—most of them cheaper than scallions—that there’s little sense in buying scallions mainly to get the white parts. (Moreover, for those of us who are sensitive to high FODMAP foods—Google that if it’s unfamiliar—the green parts of scallions, along with chives, are the only kinds of onions we can safely eat.)
Unfortunately, though, it’s the green parts of scallions that are the first to fade, wilt and rot, while the white parts usually remain usable a bit longer.
And the growers (and vendors) know this—with the result that many of the growers cultivate varieties with longer white parts just so that their scallions can remain attractive looking for a longer period in the stores. (I suspect that a lot of buyers, like me, only buy scallions with long white parts reluctantly, when there are no better scallion options available.)
And it seems that a lot of the scallions with longer white parts are also the organic brands. That makes me think that their longer shelf life may be an added incentive or justification for the stores to pay those higher organic prices. (And maybe the customers with the money to spend on organic products also have the extra money to buy a second bunch of scallions, when they need to, just to get the full amount of the green parts that they want!)
These organic scallions have longer white parts than green.
Of the bunch I received today, I would estimate that at least 75 to 80 percent of its weight was made up of the white (and pale green) parts that I can’t use.

A generous portion of bagged green onions. On occasion, they’ve arrived a bit slimy. I’ve ordered them often and hope for the best.
