These beans have great flavor–I’ve steamed them with sweet onions, red potatoes, and squash. That is the best feature. So, I reordered them once or twice, thinking the problem with stringiness was some kind of fluke. They are supposed to arrive ready-to-cook: fresh, clean, and trimmed; to some extent, they are.
When I took the beans out of the bag before adding them to the other vegetables, I noticed somehing I might not have if I just put them in the microwave in the package, as suggested. A lot of the ends are sort of darker and sometimes, rubbery, not quite fresh looking or feeling, so although they are supposed to be trimmed, I’ve trimmed off the the ends myself.
My biggest issue, and the reason I’ve quit ordering this brand, is how much string is left in these beans, something I guess I expected to be minimal–supposedly, most beans are bred to eliminate the strings (but, unlike “deveined” shrimp that have a few requiring additional deveining, I wasn’t able to remove any of the strings before cooking). When we eat these, sort of like removing fish bones, you have to catch the strings when you’re chewing (or feel them on the back of your tongue), and put them on the plate, or risk choking. I mean, they are too strong and lengthy to swallow. Unfortunately, this isn’t an exaggeration–a couple of servings yield enough inedible strings to line the edges of a dinner plate–gross as that is to picture.
Maybe they need to plant a different kind of bean–I understand there are lots of varieties out there.

The beans are fresh in the bag. I like the way they can be steamed in the bag or eaten raw. I have purchased them again.

I like making side dishes with green beans, and these have worked fine.

I purchase these every week in my Whole Foods store. Can’t be without them. Fresh, crunchy and perfect for snacking on throughout the day. I break one or two up into little pieces for my dog, who loves them too. Also great heated in the microwave, sautéed in olive oil (try with mushrooms), or steamed.

These are great. You just have to use them almost immediately. They go bad QUICK if you wait a couple days to cook them.

Not cheap, but fat, fresh, and delicious. I never liked string beans, but now they’re among my favorite veggies. A word of advice: open the bag right away so that the beans are exposed to the air. That way they will keep for a week. But otherwise, kept enclosed, they will become slimy and spoil quickly.
