I like to grow lemongrass for my cats to munch on. The 6 stalks were a little dried out, but after cleaning off some dead leaves, I stuck them in water. 3 started getting roots and growing fairly quickly….the other 3 stalks are starting to get roots. The stalks smell wonderful and would probably be great for cooking too

I was skeptical when opened the box and found 6 stalks in a bundle, loose in the box and not even wrapped in anything. They were pretty dried out but I trimmed them a tiny bit and put them in a jar of water on in the kitchen window sill. Within a week, they all had root sprouts. I put them in some small pots with potting soil and put them in a shady area under a tree. They kept growing. Several weeks later, the roots began showing in the holes in the bottom of the pots so I put them in the ground. They are now 4 feet tall and flourishing.

The shipping took longer than originally stated, and the 6 stalks I got was dried out and slightly beat up. One stalk after taking the outside layer off was very thin compared to the other 5..Was excited they finally showed up, not so excited on the condition…

I followed the guidelines from other reviews to get the stalks to root. I have a nice kitchen window with a full day of indirect sun and no drafts. I placed 5 of the 6 stalks i received there in shallow water after cleaning up any outer fronds that were dry or showing signs of rot. I changed the water daily, and I used water only. No plant food. The stalks rooted within two weeks, and after the roots were about half of my little finger’s length, I planted them gently. I moved the lemongrass to a partially sunny area at first, giving the stalks minimal sun to avoid burn. After about 10 days, I moved then to a sunny spot with about 6 hours of sun. Now they live in an area of all day, full sun in the Texas summer heat.
I had used one stalk to flavor a marinade for beef. Flavorful product. I have not cut into my newly grown stalks yet; it’s just too pretty. I want to order and grow many more soon, so I will definitely be buying more.

I received my 6 quickly and well packaged. I bought these for growing and not to eat, at least not yet. All 6 rooted nicely in just a few days and actually started growing not long after putting them in some water. I planted 3 of them directly where I wanted some, while the other 3, I planted in some pots after I let all 6 root out a bit. By that time, they had doubled in size. Well worth the money especially considering the ones that are being sold to plant costs quite a bit more.

Not fresh lemon grass! update on my review, i thought as many others that the plants did not stand a chance, so amazon refunded my 2$ most of the money was the 9.95$ shipping which i did not get back, plant base bulb was cut off to short than pictured and brown and black, dried out moldy, but i stuck in water anyway what did i have to lose i also used non chlorine water just let it sit out 24hrs, wet the whole plant down not just the bottom, and placed in clear glass vase not plastic it leaches ,after out side stems became soften i removed, by gently peeling off and low and behold they started taking a bulb shape more tapered look, kept water clean and saw little part growing out off top, before any roots came tiny spurt of growths in center had to look closely but yup they were in fact growing from top center and then starting getting little roots it took quite awhile but all but one grew, i put in dirt right away and taking off ever since, so don’t pitch they will grow even half dead and no bottoms and black and moldy, lol

I will be buying more if the time comes I need to get new starters.
All of my starters are growing well and are getting pretty huge now.
Once they arrived I placed them in a glass jar with water for a few days, changing the water daily, and using bottled water-not tap water. After a few days to a week later I dipped them in root starter and placed them back in the jar with fresh water. Within a few weeks I had very strong rooting starting. I did not change the water after I applied the root starter; I only added water to the jar as needed.
They went into a little bit of shock when I transplanted them, but as noted, they are doing fantastic. I even gave two hardy plants away because they were doing so well.

These lemongrass shoots came well packaged, and shipped quickly. They are perfect for rooting, with a nicely intact node. For those new to growing lemongrass, peel off any outer leaves that have dried a bit in shipping, trim the tops off the leaves (they smell Amazing), then put them in a jar with enough water to cover the base. Put them on a windowsill where it’s not too cold, and change the water once a week so they get O2 at the node. It might take over a month for the tiniest roots to appear, but they will. The roots grow long and healthy by spring planting…just be patient and keep changing the water! I have not tried it, but I’d imagine they should root well in a hydro or aquaponic system too.

This item was or appeared to be old. 3 had to be tossed. I peeled back dead outer layer and trimmed a small amount off end of stalks. Placed in water and they barely sprouted roots. Very disappointed. Purchased some lemon grass from an Asian market an hr away. They are sprouting fine. I still had to drive 2 hrs there and back. Purchasing online and the shipping…turned out was wasted money for trying to save on a drive.

These have done well with rain water and placed on a window sill. They multiply quickly. 1 stem can quickly turn into 7.
