FLYBYJING Chili Crisp – Premium Spicy Sichuan Chili Oil w/ Crunch, Savory All-Natural Vegan Hot Sauce, Good on Everything, Sugar-Free, 6oz (Pack of 1)
After looking at several brands of Chili Crisp, I chose to order this brand because it does not contain MSG and sugar. The flavor is great and the heat level is perfect for adding a touch of perkiness to most foods. However, I might continue my search because this one contains too much oil and not enough crispy pieces to notice the crunch in our food.

This chili oil goes quick. I used it on rice and dollar ramen packs. I don’t even use the seasoning packets anymore, just a tablespoon of this on well-drained ramen noodles and you’ve got chili noodles. It’s just the right amount of spice (lip-tingly spice) with lots of good things at the bottom that need stirring. There is a LOT of oil, but for me that’s perfectly fine, because it makes it easier to stir into food. Your mileage may vary.

I have had the good fortune of living in Chengdu for a short time. I have been to the fly restaurants and they are very creative and amazing. The unique taste of that region comes from creative uses of the Sichuan pepper. This unique creation is reminiscent of the chili crisp oil I used on mostly everything when I was there. But this sauce is unique. In texture, and in taste, in that is truly goes on everything. I have used this on ice cream, watermelon, noodles, steak, hamburger, pizza, shrimp, and salmon. I have also used this as an Aioli sauce, mixed with mayo, and mixed with ranch dressing which I used for salads, fries, and onion rings. I have mixed this with tomato sauce for a fun spaghetti. It’s asian fusion in a jar! And it’s from a real chef. I have never been disappointed in the taste of what I put it on. It makes everything taste better. When I get it, I mix the oil with the crisp part, which can be crispy or chewy depending on how it’s used. It’s shelf stable, doesn’t need to be refrigerated, but if you do refrigerate, it’s fine. I have chilled it, heated it up, and used it at room temperature. This is used to taste but I find that after 3 spoonfuls, it also has a slight numbing effect on the palate. I have also discovered that the crisp part tends to soak up the oil, giving it a chewy texture. If you heat it, it releases the oil, becoming crispy. It is a messy sauce. I find it hard to simply scoop it out of the jar and not have a ring of oil under the jar after, but that’s fine. That’s what they make paper towels for. It is expensive, but this is made for you by a chef. The taste is unique. I have had other chili crisp sauces before and never anything quite like this. So that’s why it’s a bit pricey, but then again, it’s worth it.

I wouldn’t call this spicy at all. That does have an interesting taste. More like the chili oil sauce that you get at an Asian restaurant wish they had one that was hotter.
Also, 100 cal per tablespoon? I would rather drink another light beer then get 100 cal from just one tablespoon of this. You have to use so much because it’s not very hot.

Try it. I’m weak to spice but the flavor is so good I’m happily in pain to enjoy. Ive gotten my family all four of the jars now. The Xtra Spicy seems to be a spicier version of the Sichuan, just FYI. I’ve tried the sauces on a number of things so far with no disappointments.

I hope I don’t cause an International incident, but I can no longer eat pizza or quesadillas or just about anything else without Jing sauce! It’s vegetarian like me! I understand that mushrooms are eukaryotes (like me but i’m eatin’ ’em), so this isn’t strict vegan sauce. It is mighty tasty! Catch the buzz (endorphins) and eat it with a spoon in every bite!

The oil tastes great. Cost is less that the other popular brand. The bad part of it was the packaging. It arrived in a cardboard surround. Unfortunately that didn’t stop it from having a dented lid somehow and leaking in the package with other items I ordered. I removed the plastic seal on the top and it was barely closed. I can attribute some of the packaging to Amazon, but the lid being that loose is all a manufacture issue.
It’s not worth the hassle to send it back. I would buy again if I see it in a store and I could verify that it wasn’t leaking all over.
***UPDATE***
The seller did contact me and offer a full refund due to the poor packaging. That is much appreciated and I have added a star for the great customer service. I did not opt for the refund as I think my review wouldn’t be truthful. People should know that they were quick to message after my review published.

While advertised as “extra spicy,” I could eat his by spoonful out of the bottle. Far too much oil, almost no “crisp.”

UPDATE: The seller reached out and offered a refund. I refused because I did not want to take money away from a small business owner. However they refunded me anyway. I cannot say enough good things about the owners. They are truly honest and kind people with a generous heart and it was much appreciated! A rare commodity on Amazon. I gave the 2nd jar to my sister and she actually loved it. She likes salty and spicey, so it depends upon the consumer. If you love spicey stuff with that “umami savory” taste (that certain “something” that makes a savory dish taste yummy), then I think this would be for you. We’ve been using it on our morning eggs and we like that the best, it’s perfect with eggs. 🙂
I had too high hopes for this after seeing a report on a morning show about it. I had never heard of chili crisp and it sounded fantastic, and the small business that owns it seemed like good people. So I wanted to test it out. Could only find it in a local Target store, but it was very pricey. Amazon charged the same price but at least it was for 2 jars instead of one. Many reviewers said that the texture was oily and to make sure you stir it well (which I did). It was good on stir fry and also eggs, (on savory foods mostly), but we found it to be a bit too spicy for our taste and it had an oily taste (and not the pleasant kind, but more of an aged oily feel and taste). We decided to just keep and use it for eggs and stir fry which it was mostly good with. I put the opened used jar in the fridge to keep it fresher, but one day, when I reached for the jar, the lid felt a bit oily, when I tried to gently open it, it slipped and flew out of my hands and half the contents (worth about $5.50) went all on the front of my favorite shirt and on the floor and freshly painted wall! Luckily, some good stain removal soap removed it from the shirt, and I wiped it off the wall before it could stain. This all happened right before a party we were having, so I cleaned up the floor area before I could take a pic of that also. It reaked of old rancid oil for 2 days after. The biggest complaint of this product is that they did not design the lids well. They are not securely tight fitting in the first place, and if the inner part of the lid gets oily (which is pretty easy), then the lid seems to easily loosen, and could also easily slip out of your hands while opening. Just a warning to people who buy it, be very careful and hold it over your sink when opening. Also, it tasted a bit too salty to us, so a little goes a long way. I plan on giving the second jar to a relative, as we did not really care for the taste enough to keep a 2nd jar of it. If you do buy it, make sure to stir it WELL before using it, or you’ll just get a mouthful of seasoned oil.

I got the X-Tra Spicy Chili Crisp because it was EBT eligible and the regular Sichuan Chili Crisp was not at the time I ordered. I was hoping it wasn’t too spicy because while I do like spicy food, I know a lot of stuff that’s labeled as extra spicy tends to be overly hot with no flavor, and I don’t generally like stuff that’s hot just to be hot or for bragging rights.
I also noticed some people’s reviews showing their deliveries had leaked and I was concerned about that. Mine did not, and there was definitely a “pop” when I opened my jar.
This was my first time buying any kind of chili crisp product. I’d seen lots of hype and kudos about the Sichuan Chili Crisp and decided I wanted to give it a try. I’ve had house chili oils at ramen restaurants and I’ve had other types of chili oil hot sauces (Tomasa Hot Sauce, I highly recommend it!).
I opened the jar and was met with a very pungent smell. I did read that it had preserved black beans and mushroom powder in it and you can definitely tell. I made sure to fully stir up the jar. I decided to taste the oil from the spoon just to gauge the heat and see if it was going to hot for my liking and overpower any flavor it might have. I definitely tasted the flavor (with the concentration of the smell it would be hard not to) but the oil did come off pretty hot and hit me a bit in the back of the throat.
I decided to try this on a Birria and Cheese pupusa from Costco. I figured the heat would be good with this and I know what the flavors are to have a good base line.
What sorcery is this chili crisp? The heat wasn’t so intense anymore. But the flavors that were there suddenly were more intense and enhanced the flavor of the pupusa so much more than any of the other hot sauces I’ve had them with. I’m honestly shocked that the heat level seemed diminished. It was noticeable before. Now I don’t notice it. Maybe because I had already tasted it, I was already used to it. But the flavors it added were amazing and I’m still tasting the combination 10 minutes later.
I’m excited to try this on other foods like pizza. I have some dumplings in the freezer too I’d like to try it with. Eggs are a no brainer.
I still want to try the original Sichuan Chili Crisp, but the X-Tra Spicy was delicious and honestly surprised me in how it transformed once I added it to food. I’d definitely buy it again.
