My husband loved it! But he said it was really expensive! I opened one can and there were only 2 … that means each one cost about $12.50

I am only giving it a 3 star because there are only two (2) pieces in the can – it is very costly for me but I like treating myself to this product since 1980, and I love it.
These cans used to be less than $5, and came with three large pieces, up until three years ago I was buying the same for less than $11, at Jons Markets – sadly, they’ve discontinued the product. I’ll always buy it, but I mind being cheated and having to settle for two pieces instead of the three I was used to.

My first time trying this, I liked the liquid it’s in more than I liked the Abalone. I bought it because my girlfriend is from Chile and missed having this, although they eat them fresh. She absolutely loved these out of the can. We made it the traditional Chilean way, with potato salad and romaine tossed in lemon juice and salt. I saved the liquid in the can and used it as the base for a hellafied seafood soup I made a couple days later. If you can’t find Abalone locally, this got a five star rating from my home sick Chilean girlfriend.

This product is good for any dish, I like to just cut it out and eat like snack but remember to go with nice wine or else it will be taste funny in your mouth. It also good for cooking with lettuce, boil or pan fried the lettuce first then add on this product and make a oyster sauce topping, it will be delicious.

Dont buy. The can labels do NOT say abalone. The stuff inside has NO taste and is like chewing rubber bands. This is a total waste of your money. Try the EMPEROR brand of ready to make Abalone soup concentrate. Just add a packet to boiling water. Tastes really great. From Amazon of course.

Great taste, however, I am not sure it is worth the price.

The shellfish seemed to be in good shape but it was very rubbery and tasteless. I attempted to saute it unsuccessfully, even after I sliced it very thin. I called the supplier but they did not return my call.

The six cans I order were bumped severely, but the content was in excellent condition. Texture, color and flavor was the best. I wish the cans will not be damaged next time. A small bumped its ok, but severely bumped is not appropriate specially when we are paying very high price for them. Thanks, German

These are cheap considering they are an expensive delicacy in Chinese cuisine, and they are much more expensive in China, although I’ve never tried abalone before, but these are tasty and sure is a delicacy.
So I’ve tried the South American abalone, now I have to try the Chinese ones to compare, the Chinese abalone as far as I know are dried and they do not use fresh abalones and it takes days to prepare them.
The shop was nice and friendly and threw in a free seafood product for me to try, it’s a nice marketing approach to give away freebies since the product is about to pass its “Best Before” date(about one month left), now I’m not trying to abash anybody or anything like that but I’m just being blunt and candid, but I still very much appreciate the free product. The most pleasant thing is that the seller wrote in pen to thank me for ordering, this is what is very personal and heartwarming to me because most thank yous nowadays they just type it on the paper, but you got someone who wrote thank yous by hand is just very touching, and at the end of the thank you note there’s a little smiley face which is very cute lol and I’m sure to order some more in the future. Thank you Allen!!! ^o^
