I got rave reviews from the family after following a recipe I’d found in the New York Times for Vietnamese-style cubes of firm tofu braised in caramel sauce. But 90% of the effort and time was making the sauce from scratch, and working it to the right consistency. Ever since, I let the professionals handle the hard part for me– and I get the same great results with only a tenth the effort. From the bottle, the Jovian sauce is fairly runny, but it’s easy to thicken in the pan (and then just as easy to thin with a few drops water when you’ve thickened it too much).

The only down side is that I didn’t buy a case. It’s now impossible to locate this brand / sauce. UGH!!!!!!!!!

The fastest, easiest, most delicious marinade to make my thit kho!! It use to take me at least 2 hours just to prep everything from shallots, garlic, Carmel sauce to marinade time and cook time. All i did was cut up my protein (pork shoulder) onto small cuts, couple of tablespoon of this sauce, with a little veg oil in my instant pot – sauté it for a few minutes. IP for 5 mins with a cup of coconut water or soda. Then sautéd until water evaporates to leave the best looking dark Carmel. It’s so delicious! All under 20-30 mins! Already made it twice just bc i was craving it. Time and life/taste saver!
