This stuff is so good! I use it in chili, ziti, tacos, etc. and it is the perfect ground beef replacement. I’ve lived this vegan life for a little over a year now and I’ve tried a LOT of meat substitutes and I’ve found that most that do not come frozen have a super funky smell. If it smells gross I won’t even bother cooking it; why waste the other ingredients ya know? Vege Burger doesn’t have an overpowering aroma and once you add your own seasonings that plant-y taste is very muted. Ok so you do have to get past the fact that it looks a little (ok more than a little) like dog food in a can but just dump it in a bowl and separate with a fork (I use a potato masher) and you’re golden!

For 70 plus years, this product has pleased those who like it and doctor it up to their taste. For the same length of time, those who don’t like it haven’t bought it. I grew up with it. I like it. I add the eggs and breadcrumbs and sage and salt and a few red pepper chile flakes, fry it up in oil and assemble the burgers as I wish. Advantage: the cows live. Con: the cows live to produce more methane, and I have to buy B12 pills. PS. It doesn’t taste like meat. I don’t care.

I liked that it was sold in set of 3

While I love this stuff, I was very upset to learn that they made the cans much smaller. They used to be 19 oz, now 15 oz for the same price. I would rather have them be the same size but for a higher price. Now I’ll have to order more. 😡😡😡

I grew up eating this stuff. This makes the best vegeburger. Far better than the modern premade kind.

I got this thinking it’d be great to be able to enjoy a lower fat, healthier substitute for ‘ground beef’. When I opened the can, I wanted to puke because it does, indeed, look like dog food. I tried microwaving it, and forced myself to take a bite and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a very mild flavor (think rice or almost flavorless peas) with just a hint of onion or garlic. I then heated up a skillet with some oil in it, added the vege-burger, some garlic powder, black pepper, cumin, oregano and some mixed cheeses, and fried it all together until the ‘meat’ was almost burnt, as that’s how I like my ground beef and ground turkey. Added a little salt, slapped the mixture on a bun (It holds shape beautifully!) and was pleasantly surprised with how flavorful and filling it is, now.
Its own flavor isn’t strong, but this means you can make it whatever flavor you like very easily. This would be great for veggie-taco night. The texture is a little softer than meat, but very close, and with the right spices it tastes amazing. I’d definitely buy it again.

I have been using meat alternative products for 25 years now. This is by far better than frozen alternatives!
It comes out of the can in a chunk. I Open both ends and it comes right out. It is easy to work with. It fries up like ground beef with a similar texture. I use it in chili and no one can tell it is not meat, except when they see who makes it – they know me by now.
I have digestion and chewing problems with many of the meatless crumbles and patties found in the freezer section of the supermarkets. Vege-Burger worked for me and my gastric-bypass stomach. Protein is a major reason I use meat substitutes. This product gives me plenty of that without the fat or added calories.
I am really glad that Amazon carries this as no stores in my state stocks Loma Linda products.
Oh, and what a the shelf life. I’m stocking up right now.

I have been making veggie burgers out of this product under a different brand. This one is ground finer than the other one which seems to make it stick together better when forming patties. I grew up on vegetarian products like this. I also eat meat. I would say it’s a good product. We like it. But, If you are a meat eater and try this don’t let anyone tell you that you won’t know the difference from hamburger. I think people that tell people that don’t know what they are talking about. It sets meat eaters up for disappointment. I mix flour, eggs, Italian seasoning and chopped onions and form burger patties and then fry.

19 oz is quite a bit larger than popular frozen meat crumble brands which are about always under 1lb making them hard to use for a sub in recipes calling for a pound of ground meat. It’s a good deal as its larger than a lb and still comparable in price (better per ounce actually I think). No seasoning so you have to season yourself which makes it all the more versatile in any recipe. There is of course less flavor than ground beef so if you’re using it in Hamburger Helper or something dependent on flavor of meat you will need to add a little sumthin’ sumthin’.
