These are California grown In shell Macadamia nuts. They a larger in size as compared to what you get normally in stores. The shells are really hard and need special care during breaking so as to not injure your self.

The package was delivered 5 days early. The nuts are a good size and very fresh and it was packed SO WELL, that really impressed me, but above all my blu hyacinth made a purring noise, therefore 2 thumbs up and 5 stars for being EDEN APPROVED

These don’t seem like the freshest, most are pretty good but in about 1 in 4 the meat is a little mushy.

My first time with in shell Macadamia nuts. I suspect that it is even for the producer it’s hard to know how they will be inside. Maybe better getting them shelled.
I have to say though these dried out little ones have a very intense flavor. Just very tuff.

I know macadamia nuts. I’ve ordered macs for myself but mostly my macaw for over 20 years. I used to buy from Gold Crown Macadamia Assn in the Fallbrook CA area. SanMac has the Cate variety which is generally ideal because the shell is mostly thin. I’ve ordered probably 6 five lb bags of raw nuts over the course of a year to see what time of year they might be freshest. I’ve asked the sales staff multiple times if the nuts are freshly harvested and I get a response saying they’ve just been packed. Having just been packed doesn’t mean they’re fresh. I haven’t gotten a bag that I could even say half are fresh. Final result: my bird rejects 80% of them, not even bothering to crack the shell. I open the nuts up to see what type of nut is inside and frequently, it’s shriveled and stuck to the shell. The flavor is off from what should be buttery to too crunchy and on the bitter side. The nuts that are good are very good, but I think the old nuts get mixed in with the new which makes the cost per lb much higher if they are thrown out. I wish I could trust this company to toss the old nuts and just provide fresh ones. I’d take 80% percent fresh accounting for the reality that they all can’t be good but it hasn’t been my experience.

We purchase these for our Hyacinth Macaw. He is nearly 40 years old and has very discriminating taste. He has not tossed a one out! Thank you for your product!

These were impossible to crack. Used four different types of crackers and a hammer. Got one in 15 to crack. The taste was very stale. Threw them into my wooded area for the wild animals, maybe three will have better luck opening them.

Macadamia nuts have to be dried before consumption – their moisture content has to be reduced down to 4%, so (1) the shell is hard and cracks properly, (2) the nut is crunchy rather than chewy.
The nuts I ordered here weren’t properly dried. They didn’t crack cleanly in the nut-cracker — they sort of squished and bended. The meat inside was chewy. It was still tasty! I could tell that these were high quality macadamia nuts! just not yet ready for eating.
I would have to dry them further myself. How to do that? The California Macadamia Nut Growers’ Association says: “A kitchen oven at the lowest warm setting, or a food dehydrator at the nut setting (around 104 degrees) for two to three days.”
I don’t have a food dehydrator, and my oven’s not very good, so I was stuck with 2lb of sub-optimal macadamias. Oh well. I’ll be looking around for other sources of nuts for my next purchase.
