The flavors were too strong and overpowering to use in any recipe.

Delicious and easy to rehydrate. I use it in my soups and rice porridges. It adds an umami flavor that is similar to the fresh stuff

I found them chewy if you try to use them whole. I pick out how much I think I need then soak them in hot water. Then I cut them into small pieces and re-soak them in hot water. Both times just enough hot water to cover them. I reuse whatever water is left from the first soak and add what I need to it for the second. I probably let them soak around 15 minutes each time.

The taste is ok nothing special, but I don’t like it takes long time to soak water till it gets soft, almost need 2 hours!

I use these for an Asian soup I make with Bok choy, ground meat, tofu or rice noodles, beef broth, soy sauce and sesame seed oil, topped with green onions. These dried mushrooms are the most potent I’ve ever had…more than the sliced version. After you soak them, make sure you use the mushroom broth with your soup, it makes it so much better! You don’t need much per serving and they last a long time. I buy this brand about every 6 months to a year.

Really didn’t like at all

Wow, so Dried Shiitakes are expensive. You search, and take a look. This was the best bargain I found. I grew up in an asian household, so very familiar with Dried Shiitake in recipes, but I’m not a mushroom snob. The flavor is good for me. I’m not focusing on a dish where the mushroom is the primary ingredient, so I definitely like the versatility with this mushroom. Don’t forget to save the mushroom dehydrating water to use in your dishes, umami!!

These did not even deserve one star. They did not rehydrate after soaking for 48 hrs. Waste of money. I’m surprised that there is no recourse for food products that are very unsatisfactory.
