For me, this product has 2 purposes in my life:
1 – I’m a dad with two little kids. As vegetarians, I’m always looking for ways to get clean, plant-based protein into their active bodies. I pop a strip into each of their lunchboxes daily. They love them. For that reason alone, I’m sold.
2 – I’m an outdoorsman. I farm, and I spend a lot of time hiking. I need lightweight protein that doesn’t require refrigeration. These are perfect. I keep a stash in the glovebox of the truck, and always a handful in my trail pack. I give them to my employees when I see a guy’s energy flagging. The fellas don’t even know its vegetarian. It’s just good.
Only one suggestion: I hope they adjust the packaging so it tears ACROSS the top, not down the side. Then you can eat it more like a push-pop, and don’t have to worry about touching it. Especially useful if you work on a farm, where you might have been touching animals, gasoline, etc

Very good product very tasty. I really love all of the flavors. However the packaging is difficult. I am not some 98 pound weakling and most of the time I can not get the product out of the package with a pair of scissors or a knife. There are tears/perforations in the packaging to allow the consumer to tear along those and remove the product but in at least 65 or 70% of the cases they are impossible to tear and or do not open the package fully.
Great product bad packaging. A simple horizontal cut along the top with scissors or a knife and the product is easily removable without getting your fingers sticky. That is the other problem with the vertical perforations/tears on the rare occasion that one can use them to remove the product you are then left holding a sticky mess (with most of the flavors).
The tear or perforations are in the wrong place and are just too difficult to use.
If you wanted to take these with you on a 2 hour long walk/hike in or around the neighborhood or whatever you would need to bring a knife or scissors with you . . . which for those of us who always carry a pocket knife is not a big deal but for the rest it is very inconvenient.
Having said all that when I have finished these 100% I will buy them again. I love the favor and the price point. Other veggie jerkey is anywhere between about 1.5 to 4 times the price. And those more expensive products are not significantly better (many are worse to be honest).
Bottom line I would glad pay an extra $0.10 or so per bar for better packaging but the price and flavor of these are over all better than any other similar product.

As a vegan, this is the kind of thing I can eat all day, every day. It tastes amazing and I literally can eat ten in a row lol. So happy they made this product and the flavors are awesome. I give it 4 stars instead of 5, as sometimes the individual bars are more dried out than others. So I guess the consistency isn’t always 100% – maybe some of them were sitting for awhile? Either way, its still like the best thing ive ever had, but some packs taste a bit fresher than others. But again, still greatest jerky I love this stuff

I really am happy I tried this, the price is very reasonable compared to anything local (if you can even find it) or compared to buying smaller packs and some of the other brands. I haven’t been able to find any vegan jerky locally at the coop anymore so I’ll admit that it’s been a while since I tried any other brand for direct comparison. This is better than I remembered the others being though.
I’d recommend this for a first purchase to try the brand even if you think one of them sounds better than the others. You actually get a split of 6 flavors. Hickory Smoked must be new or something because at the time of this review, it’s not shown in the product picture. Some flavors are probably going to appeal to you more than others and it’s nice to give them a go before committing. In my case I like all of them though so I’ll probably just keep getting the sampler pack to mix it up.
Hot and Spicy is a little bit drier and more solid. The other five have more similar textures, they are a bit softer and stringier. The texture is good. You won’t fool anyone who eats meat jerky but in my case I’ve been vegetarian for too long to really compare. This is a little oily on the outside, keep in mind that compared to regular jerky, it’s slightly messier and you will need to rinse your hands afterward if you hold the thing directly without eating it out of the package. Not a complaint but just pointing this out if you’re going to munch on these while sitting in your cubicle or something.
I would put Mesquite Lime and Thai Peanut as my favorites but your mileage will vary. In my case, I like those ones since they seemed to have the "strongest" flavor and I’m not trying to critique whether it tastes like meat or not, just enjoying it for what it is.

I have tried 4 types of vegan jerky. Here are my opinions:
Louisville Vegan Jerky – 7/10 – Interesting flavors, some better, some worse, none bad. Softer than actual jerky. Overall pretty good. Soy based. Might buy these again.
Primal Spirit Vegan Jerky – 4/10 – Bizarre flavors, some decent, some odd, some absolutely awful, and many do not taste like what they’re labeled as. Very odd consistency, stringy yet also very tough, not at all like actual jerky. Wet / “basted” in the packet, soaked in liquid flavoring, sometimes drips out when opened. Hard to compare to actual jerky, more like it’s own food type. Overall … strange. Soy, gluten, mushroom based. Would never buy again.
Noble Jerky – 8/10 – Good flavors, actually tasty. Decent consistency, sort of like very soft jerky. Similar to Louisville brand overall. Soy based. Have bought again. Best of the bunch.
Beyond Meat – 6/10 – Closest consistency to actual jerky, chewy compared to the others. Flavors are charitably – bland, and uncharitably – not great. While the Primal Spirit brand has the *consistency* of shoe leather and flavors of nothing I’ve ever tasted before, the Beyond Meat brand has the consistency of actual jerky but at times the *flavor* of shoe leather. I’m betting the pea protein used in these does not help here. NOT soy based. Mung bean and pea protein based. Would not buy again.

It comes in a large single strip, and is a little too moist and tender to be jerky. Brands like Beyond Jerky have a much more realistic texture. But it tastes GREAT. Much better than other jerkies in the same price range, including Beyond.

Likes: Not meat; a readily available protein snack or meal addition, like 75% of the flavors.
Dislike: The “line” flavor jerky was a shocking flavor to any mouth. It tasted more like “sour” than like lime flavor.

I’ve eaten tons of this jerky and recently took a case on a 6 week camping/roadtrip where this jerky saved out butts in areas that didn’t have any vegan food options on the road. I really love them all but it must be said that the lime one tastes like vomit to me. I sincerely hope I am the only one who feels this way!! Citrus and lime in particular are some of my favorite foods but this combo does not work for me. I have eaten maybe 6 of the lime flavor over the years and they are unfailingly gross to me. Otherwise: 5/5 stars!

This is such a fantastic meat substitute snack for any vegetarian longing for a chewy treat!

This Primal Spirit Vegan Jerky – Sampler Pack has been voted #1 in my family of vegans! It is so delicious and no animals were harmed for it. The sampler pack is great so we have a variety rather than eating the same one all the time. Although, all the flavors are great. They are very easy to throw in a purse, backpack, or car for on-the-go snacking. Highly recommend!
