A couple years ago, an English friend gifted me some lightweight mesh produce bags from Selfridge’s in London. Lightweight, washable, and reusable, they really worked, plus are handy to keep produce in at home! When fruit flies are pests in the summer, put your tomatoes in them. I find this really helps–because good ripe tomatoes don’t belong in the frig. Anyway, I ordered a supply of Utilifox bags since I have become such a fan of these kind of bags (which can be used in multiple ways). They arrived, responsibly packaged in lightweight recyclable cardboard, with a thank you card, and tips on their use. It’s great to support small business doing good in this world! I love the bags: they are every bit as nice as the ones from Selfridge’s, and I didn’t have to go to England to stock up. The quality is great!

These bags are a perfect alternative to the plastic produce bags in stores.

Exactly what I wanted. No more leaving a mess on my counter.

I eat a ton of vegetables, which has meant a lot of plastic bags at the grocery. I was skeptical that these bags would keep things fresh (I like FRESH, no limp broccoli for me!). And hallelujah, they work well. Things last for a good week in the fridge in them. Even lettuce, though beyond a week most greens get a little soggy in them if you don’t clean & wrap the greens in paper towels. The bags wash in hot water/bleach very well and have not fallen apart with regular use and cleaning. They don’t seem to stain much at all, even with carrots (though I have avoided putting beets in them). Occasionally the strings untie in the wash, but that’s an easy-peasy fix to re-knot them. So, I went ahead and bought a lot of them so I have plenty at hand when I grocery shop. No more plastic bags for me! Yeah, environment. (Wouldn’t want to have to live without it.)
By the way, they don’t work for washing bras etc. in the washing machine because no matter how well you think you’ve tied them, the wash opens the bags and the clothing spills out. Use a zipper-closed mesh bag instead.
Addendum: I knocked them down from 5 stars to 4 stars because they have one terrible flaw: the strings can come out in the wash and the bags cannot be restrung, making the bags useless. The little tubes that hold the string are so small, and the fabric and cord so slippery, that nothing can convince the strings to go back in. I even tried fashioning a little hook with a paperclip, I tried stiffening the end of the string with tape, then glue. No go. Frustrating and unsuccessful. So, TIE THE STRINGS TOGETHER TIGHT before you wash the bags (the strings are slippery and like to come untied), for if they untie and slip out in the wash, bye-bye useful bag.

These are a pleasure to use vs. the hard-to-open plastic bags the grocery stores provide. AND, you are helping the environment at the same time. Well-packaged and they even included a very cool pencil you have to see to appreciate!
haha yay –
They appear to be sewn well and the fabric which is fine yet sturdy mesh material is good enough.

Very durable, clean easily, light weight. Great to eliminate all the plastic waste. A very good size can hold most items and closes easily to prevent fruit from falling out. I would recommend this purchase if you want to help the environment by reducing plastic waste.

The resuable bags are very durable and perfect size. The packaging and marketing are also appealing and present that right perspective on sustainability with the backing of a practical product at valued pricing.
Happy gal –
They are sturdy but you can still tell what’s in the bag for the fridge and there are plenty in this pack for the grocery store or farmers market.
