Tin Star Foods – Grassfed Ghee (Grassfed Biodynamic)

The ghee itself is optimal quality. I wish they had a plastic seal to prevent leakage of contents.

I have only tried only one other generic brand of ghee, and I didn’t really like it, until this one. It has a clean pure taste, I must say the first one I tried was in a plastic jar,j and it really tasted like plastic to me. This one has no taste of packaging, it tastes like pure butter was used, more intense flavor than butter though, it’s really delicious. I am trying this for health reasons, both digestive and for allergies. This surprises me that I’m able to tolerate this, as it is considered dairy, but no ill effects for me, only good things to say about ghee and this brand. It’s also surprising to me that I can only eat a handful of foods currently, and this is one of them now. I didn’t try the cheapest for my second attempt with ghee, but also it’s not the most expensive either. I do think packaging matters with this product, glass only at least for me as I seem to be super sensitive to flavors with only being able to very bland foods right now. If someone is struggling with similar issues, it helps me with digestion for sure and with my allergies, they are not magically fixed yet, but this has lessoned my problems. I have one teaspoon with every meal throughout the day. It really helps finding a fat I can have now, because I’ve lost so much weight from this illness. I hope this can help others too!

Before I begin my review, I would like to preface this because it’s important to include the fact that this was my first time purchasing ghee from any company. I’ve always made my own ghee or clarified butter. I guess I was expecting this to taste very similar if not identical to what I’m used to. In my opinion, this tastes nothing like ghee. Yes it’s true that homemade almost always tastes better than processed, but I was expecting only minor inconsistencies. It tasted old and it was really grainy. It does, however, cook things perfectly well and can reach high temps without smoking. If I ever purchase more ghee from different brands and find they all taste the same, I will change my review. For now, I give it 4 stars because it is a great oil, just not very tasty to me.

I was trying to save a few bucks so I went with this brand thinking, it’s ghee, what difference does it make which I get?
Well, there indeed was a difference in taste and texture.
The brand I usually buy is solid, very creamy and adds a rich, buttery flavor to my food. This brand is thin and practically tasteless. This might be an advantage for people who don’t like what I like. It’s a good product, don’t get me wrong! Just not my preference so I’ll go back to my old brand when this one is finished.

I love this ghee and now I bought the organic. The organic looks better, more unified than the biodynamic, which is also excellent.
It’s got a high smoke point and tastes great, spreads easily and is very nourishing. A must try.
