Purchased 2 (TWO) times —two different a54 devices–as a “locked-to”a specific carrier—which i will not name here as i cannot believe the carrier is responsible. Both phones had a power button that did not depress. Volume buttons DID depress, but… not the power button. Yes, I have, with great trepidation, decided to give a Samsung device another try, this time an a25 instead of the a54. My thanks to Amazon’s “Customer-centric” policy, and thanks to Amazon’s patience with helping me as i, with growing anxiety and frustration, walked thru understanding what I might consider doing next., I have purchased another device, with trepidation, a Samsung a25, thru Amazon. Yeah, I know, another Samsung. If the a25 doesn’t work… well… <scream> BTW, my carrier will remain the same as it has for the past several years. I hope this review is helpful. I will report on my a25 ASAP. And thanks to Amazon and its warehouse workers and drivers, too, for their very rapid delivery of.well, everything.

I’ve been a TracFone user for 12+ years and was going to transfer my TracFone service from an A20 to this A54. Upon opening the parcel, what to my surprise but a new A54 in a “STRAIGHT TALK” box, even though I ordered a “TRACFONE Samsung Galaxy A54 5G” through TracFone’s official Amazon store. I already knew both companies are owned by Verizon, but they are wholly separate from each other. I didn’t even open the phone’s box. My finger was hovering above the mouse & I was literally a mouse click away from completing Amazon’s return for refund due to “sending the incorrect item” but decided to call TracFone’s customer support line to talk to a human about this.
The TracFone CS rep was cordial enough & seemed un-phased that I received a Straight Talk instead of TracFone device. Seemed like a normal occurrence and after a Q&A session with her (needed IMEI #, etc), the phone’s service was switched to TracFone & I went on with normal setup of the new phone. I literally waited to unbox & power on the A54 as I was talking to the TracFone rep.
My beef is that TracFone should communicate to customers something to the effect of “You may receive a Straight Talk boxed phone, so don’t be surprised. Call our customer service at 1-800 and we can assist you in setting up this device with TracFone service instead. No need to return the item”.
OK, enough about Verizon/TracFone’s lack of informing the customer…
Moving from & comparing an A20 to the A54 is great (5 Stars for Samsung).
-Vast improvement in camera functions/quality/capability
-The phone’s external speaker sounds much better
-Snappier response in navigating the phone
-The Smart Switch app to move data/apps/settings worked great
As expected, I spent some time uninstalling or disabling bloatware apps loaded on the phone. I’m pretty bare-bones on apps I want on the phone.
Really liking the A54 over the A20 so far. If anything changes, I’ll update this review…
**UPDATE/ADDITION 48 HRS AFTER INITIAL TRACFONE ACTIVATION**
-Downgrading the 3 stars to 2 thanks to my absolutely terrible experience with incompetent TracFone customer service (sorry Samsung).
-I won’t get into details as not to bore you other than their effort of transferring my existing TracFone plan to the new phone was very very bad (just search on TracFone CS frustrations and you’ll find endless horror stories). Hours on the phone, 2 days to resolve
– After 60 days of activation, I may unlock this A54 and move to another service solely based on my dealings with TracFone CS. (Yes, it’s possible to unlock certain TracFone devices, they must allow it per consumer rights. Get BBB involved if need be)

Works fine but I had to get a C type charger and sbu adapter for my C type phone cord to transfer files and photos. Files and photos can be easily transferred with the free Samsung Flow app, on e you get the hang of it. Watch the YouTube demo.

When I first got this telephone, I was very pleased at how easy it was to transfer everything from my old phone to my new phone, just by setting them next to each other. My Bliss and satisfaction were interrupted when I found that for some reason I couldn’t attach and send pictures, emojis Etc with text messages. I chatted with Samsung, they were very helpful and told me that it was something I would check with the carrier about. But before I had a chance to do that, somehow the problem resolved itself and everything started to work. One I hope helpful hint to anyone who can’t stop the Voice from reciting your dictated texts as you try to compose one, the little man in the bottom right hand corner of your screen will turn the voice off! There are no instructions to tell you about many things like that that could interfere with your enjoyment of this telephone. But it’s a great telephone, and the camera is astounding. I’m going to really enjoy this camera on my vacation. I highly recommend it.

I am so impressed with this phone! It is among the best phones I have ever owned. The camera is fantastic and takes very detailed photos. I can take a photo and then when I look at the photo on my phone later I can zoom in with my fingers and read fine print off labels. That’s how good of a camera it is. It has Android 13 and will get 4 Android updates. It gets monthly security updates. It has the full One UI software, not just core One UI. It is currently on One UI 5.1, but will soon get 6 when Android 14 becomes available. So far, no dropped calls. It has great cell phone tower signal reception. And it is lightning fast with 5G downloads using my data connection. I am so happy I purchased this phone. It is much better than Motorola phone I had been using.

I was a little cautious of ordering this because some other reviews had stated that they a phone for a different carrier I was reluctant I ordered and I received exactly as described a TracFone Galaxy a54 a great upgrade from my previous phone Galaxy a10e

Love the phone but it constantly drops Wi-Fi and calls. An internet search show this has been a frequent problem. I have yet to find a solution.

I had been watching the price on this phone for months so when it had a large price
drop I ordered one for both my wife and myself. Delivery was running a bit behind
what was scheduled so when it finally became available it was shipped from back East
to Nevada by overnight delivery..thank you Amazon. Arrived just as expected in
standard Tracfone box, the same as many Tracfones I had purchased in past years. We were
replacing Samsung A51’s and the build quality on the the new A54’s is very nice. A little
heavier than our previous phone but not much and I think this might be due to increased
battery size and the Gorilla glass on backside of the phone. On start-up lots
of updates took place including upgrade from Android 13 to Android 14.
Performance is noticable, faster in all aspects. Protected new phones with Otterbox
Commuter Lite cases and Mr Shield screen protectors. Very happy with purchase.
