We’ve been enjoying this bag of espresso whole bean coffee. I always appreciate the opportunity to do so here in the Vine program, as I don’t think I would ever give a brand like this a chance in the store… at $1.13 per ounce, there’s little to no chance I’m splurging on my budget!
But if you’re an espresso drinker, have a few extra $ burning a hole in your pocket, and have never tried this brand, I’d absolutely recommend it. Trung Nguyen has been making Vietnamese coffee for close to 30 years, apparently, and deserves wider exposure.

This made a nice smooth double shot with a nice amount of crema. When it comes to espresso, taste is obviously subjective, but how a particular bean brews up isn’t. This made a really nice, consistent shots. Flavor is good, but not my favorite, and definitely leans towards more smooth rather than powerful, but I like trying new blends and think this one is definitely worth a try if you do too.
Packaging isn’t really something I give much though to usually, because I transfer my beans to a canister after I try them, but if you keep yours in the package, this bag is great. It’s got a type of velcro (plastic I think) closure that really works well and is way more effective than the typical zip closure that seems to get clogged with bits of beans and never closes very well after the first use. Thumbs up for that. If it’s a new trend, I haven’t seen it before and hope it becomes the norm.
The nutritional info on this bag seems to be for an entire pot of coffee, but says per 12 ounce serving. There’s no plain black cup of coffee I’ve ever heard of that has 50 calories per cup, it’s typically closer to 5, which makes me think they listed it per pot. Black coffee and espresso are both very low in carbs and calories, so honestly the nutritional information here is best disregarded when it comes to a per cup/shot.

By far one of the best Arabcia beans I’ve tried! It has a bold, strong flavor with a smooth and robust finish. Brews perfect in my Breville! I’ve been a fan of the trung nguyen product line for a long time and was so excited to find that they’ve started making espresso grade whole beans (they usually sell pre-ground coffee to be used with a phin). This product was a great addition. Highly recommended!

Trung Nguyen brand is one of the popular Vietnamese brands and its coffee products has a good reputation itself. The taste is just delicious brewed coffee. I can just drink this plain or mix it with condensed mix and have delicious Vietnamese style coffe, hot or iced. Whole bean means I can ground as much I need for a week and keep the rest of the bag fresh. Online is a bit pricey compared to sold in retail stores but you pay for convenience and availability.

This is an impressively smooth coffee with a natural chocolatey flavor which really complements its smoothness. I didn’t sense any bitterness or acidity and the fresh beans are highly aromatic. The beans are darker and have a sheen to them. I was worried that the sheen was caused by oiliness (which isn’t great for superautomatic machines), however upon touching the beans, there was no oiliness – so I was delighted. As mentioned, the best way to describe this coffee is smooth and creamy. This doesn’t mean that it provides a weak or watery coffee, but I also wouldn’t classify it as robust. It has a type of velcro closure that I haven’t seen in the past – which I think provides a much more airtight seal. However, it’s hard to get my measuring spoon in there because the top opening is very narrow. I might have to cut the bag past the velcro closure to create the width I need, which is disappointing.

Trung Nguyen Espresso Whole Bean Coffee (17.6oz) arrived fresh and really aromatic. I keep it in the bag as it has a really good Velcro type of closure. These are non oily beans with a lovely sheen instead of being dry or desiccated. The beans brew a lightly sweet espresso that’s rich, flavorful and holds up well to steamed milk for my daily latte. The espresso has pleasing body, barely any bitterness and low acidity with no sour aftertaste.
I’m a fan of Vietnamese coffee, though what I drink usually has robusta beans in the mix. This is 100% Arabica beans, so I wasn’t sure it would be strong enough to satisfy me as I really like the intensity of Vietnamese robusta. But this isn’t thin, weak or watery brewed on the same setting on my super automatic machine that I use for a Robusta mix. This is smoother and less intense, but it’s a darker medium roast that’s satisfying and has a good kick to it.
I’d probably brew espresso using Starbucks Pike Place often, except it’s too roasted and oily for my auto machine and can clog or break the grinder per to the manufacturer. I have a hard time finding non oily beans for my machine I find even similarly rich and strong enough for my taste, but these Trung Nguyen beans are really flavorful and not oily, so I can use them and don’t feel like I’m compromising on taste and body using these beans for my daily espresso. Love it. 5 stars.

The Trung Nguyen Espresso Whole Bean Coffee has become my new favorite! I like a really strong coffee because I add creamer or frothed milk. This coffee is wonderfully strong, yet smooth as well! There’s no weird added flavors or aftertaste. This coffee is rich and robust, and it makes a wonderful espresso! The bag is easy to close and stores well. I grind the beans just prior to using them, and the aroma is wonderful! I recommend this whole bean coffee!

Definitely high quality beans. You can just smell and taste them. I found no overly strong or bitter notes, which I sort of expected from something labeled “espresso”. I used it in both my espresso machine and regular coffee maker. You get more of the flavor through the espresso, which makes sense. But I loved it as a regular cup of 8oz coffee with a splash of milk. We’ve almost exhausted this bag, as both my husband and I are coffee drinkers. Great coffee and it’s worth a bit of a splurge in my book.

The way the coffee is presented you can tell that care and thought was put into it. It’s not a very strong coffee but it is really smooth. I was glad to have a break from Dunkin’ coffee which my household loves. We use a coffee press at home because our water softener is connected to our cold water lines and that doesn’t work well with pods and even drip coffee you have to be careful to not make too strong or the filter will overflow. So we use a press and this is a nice coffee and I would recommend as a gift for a coffee lover.

This coffee was a real workhorse for me. It isn’t maybe the most interesting coffee that I’ve had-no unique flavor profile to speak of. But it tastes right, especially for cappuccino and espresso. I went through this by myself pretty quickly.
I also want to give a shout out to the package. They used basically velcro as a way to reseal it. Very simple and ingenious, honestly. I’m used to ripping a hole in the package and then needing a new container, or having to roll it down to tape shut, or having the resealable portion have “gaps” on the sides that let beans pass by the opening. I hope this catches on more.
