We received a package of Vietnamese coffee from our neighbor as a gift. I watched a couple of videos about how to make Vietnamese coffee and then gave it a try. It took a couple of attempts to get the amount of coffee right so that it would drip through, but it was well worth the learning curve. The coffee has a wonderful flavor and mixed with sweetened condensed milk and ice makes a great iced coffee treat.

I was so excited to get this because I love Vietnamese Coffee, and was very disappointed. The holes in the carafe and tray are just too tiny. I put the amount of coffee and water according to the instructions, but the coffee barely seeped out into my cup, and mostly just pooled in the tray.

Faulty design – screw on press hard to operate with hot water. False advertising on the image – only press is in the package, no glass cup is provided.

The only issue that I have with this coffee phin is the screw in filter. I prefer the drop-in filter. When making Vietnamese coffee, I like to see my coffee bloom, before placing the filter. This is practically difficult with a screw in filter. If this is not an issue for you, then this phin is fine.

I appreciate how much coffee this one can hold, however it was difficult finding a glass mug that it would fit on. I also wish they offered this large size with a screw type filter. If not precise it can get kind of messy… Practice makes perfect!

I like how easy it is to clean up and that you can make just as much as you need I use it in my small kitchen. The only drawback is that it takes a while to make a cup of coffee, and sometimes the coffee gets cold before you can finish it. It would be great for camping. However, I wish it was slightly bigger, even though this is more for traditional Vietnamese coffee.
