Pros:
1. Love the red color
2. The size of the sieve holes are perfect for just the right drip speed to lock in the rich flavors of the coffee.
3. Decent price with fast shipping.
Cons:
none really.
Important to know: Do not machine wash. Since it’s aluminum, gotta rinse and hand wash these.

I spent some time in Vietnam and was amazed at how delicious their coffee is. When I got home I bought and tried 9 different phin filters trying to recreate the authentic Vietnamese brew complexity. None of the others matched the quality and style of this one.
Key points – it is aluminum so it stays hot (stainless steel gets cold immediately and it affects how the brew turns out). Also, the plunger has little notches that fit under little bumps in the chamber to keep it from tilting up while brewing. And it’s beautiful to look at, a sweet reminder of Vietnamese style and culture.

Was curious about Vietnamese coffee and the brewing method of this particular device. It’s straight forward and comes with a nice comic style instructional pamphlet. Makes good coffee but dear lord does this filter get hot. You physically cannot touch any part of this brewer because it feels like it had been in the depths of mount doom. Unfortunately the hassle of wearing oven mitts while making coffee renders this product unusable.

I’ve had this for about two months now and I use it everyday! My espressos come out great every time. I did have to do some research on how to use it because at first I was having trouble brewing a cup without coffee grounds. The trick is to add your coffee then the filter and pour about two tbsp of hot water and let that soak for 30 seconds. Then fill up the basin and add the lid. Yields a great cup of coffee!

I really liked the name, the color, the look and the texture of this phin. The design was great, and maybe due to the coating, the material was easy to wash. No need for soap to wash off the coffee oil. But when you actually use it, due to the weight of this phin was so light, the whole things get hot and you have nowhere to hold to adjust. After the initial 30 second bloom and you add the middle metal part before you fill the hot water up, the metal would tilt over. To fix it, I need to put my finger in there, and it’s hot as I try to pull it back up. This mess up the drip of the coffee, it’s not even and burn myself. I tried a couple of times but couldn’t find a way around it. Too light to work.
