Okay, first off – I’m not a fish sauce expert. So, I might not be the right person to listen to about this sauce. However, I can tell you the following: (1) it has a distinct odor that was off-putting to me at first, but it’s not extremely smelly, (2) it has a nice umami flavor to it, and (3) it is extremely salty.
My understanding of traditional fish sauces are that they contain only anchovies and salt, and don’t have added water and sugar like this one from Thai Kitchen. That said, it’s nice that this is from a first pressing of the anchovies and that it’s not made with anchovy extract. So, while there are higher quality sauces available, there are definitely lower quality ones out there.
This has a nice strong flavor and isn’t too smelly, and it’s currently priced very reasonably at ~$2.50 a bottle. It’s hard to go wrong with giving it a try at that price.

I have psoriasis so all the oriental sauces (fish sauce, soy sauce, hoisin, and oyster sauce) have ingredients that I can’t eat (wheat or sugar). Those are flavors that I missed and I could always tell that flavor was missing in dishes I would normally make with these sauces. This is a great substitution! I am so glad I found it! Great depth of flavor and fills that flavor that I have missed. Short of making my own sauces, this is a convenient sauce to have on hand.

I really like this condiment but be warned, it is HOT. I mean, only a few drops is all I need to add warmth to a dish. A teaspoons worth would make the dish inedible. So therefore, it’s a good quality buy.

I am so happy to have found this product. Just a small amount of it adds a fantastic flavor to the dish. I’ve added it to soups, veggies, and especially ramen. It’s savory with a nice depth and the best part is that it’s not overly salty like a lot of flavor enhancers tend to be. I’ve just bought my second bottle and I will definitely be back for more!

This stuff is really good has a milder more balanced flavor then a soy dauce or fish sauce , its great for adding a little more flavor to soups & broths , honestly its pleasant enough to drink as a beverage if properly diluted. II enjoy it on Avocado instead of using soy sauce. It’s become an essential condiment to my cooking

Great flavor and Perfect addition to anything you want to make a little spicy ….but beware how much you use … Lol…. 1st time just adding it in like I’ve been doing it for years and eye balling it thinking it was going to add great flavor to my noodles ….well ….it did, and then came the heavy breathing sucking air through my tongue like it was a straw, adding spit back into my noodles for that extra punch…. No amount of milk helped me that afternoon …. And now when I use it I add it like I’m in a chemistry lab….trying not to blow myself up!! But seriously, so good! And it’s going to last me forever;-)

I did not find the Yondu a wonder: Neither mixed into food for cooking, nor added as eating.
I am not much of a cook, so take that into consideration. But I did find two other sauces that used independently or together? They filled my needs in the very magical way that Yondu is described by others but did not work for me. They are:
1. Kikkomen Smooth Soy Sauce
2. Kikkomen Noodle Soup Base. (Fish Sauce)
I find it ironic that I have chosen two Kikkomen sauces, as I also purchased their Kikkomen Lite Soy Sauce and found it to be absolute garbage. And I’m fairly certain that I am not terribly keen on their regular soy sauce. But these other two sauces? They really do it for me. Very much in the same way that Yondu seems to do it for most everyone else.
I found Yondu to be intrinsically lacking a deliciousness profile. And I understand that its character may be one more of invisibility of its own footprint, but to amp up and complete the flavors of everything that it’s put with. I did use it more as an “add on” and less of an “added to”. Though with eggs it was both, depending on how they were cooked.
Based on the other reviews? I feel compelled to give it another run. I have not yet read the recipe book included with the purchase. I will update my. review if I have a better experience.

We make our own beans in an instant pot. We use vegetable broth vs water. This product makes it easy to always have enough because 2t equals 1 cup of broth. It feels like a money saver and less packaging used because no containers of broth needed from the store.
